We read a text about the system of universities in United States. Its
YanıtlaSilname is The Pursuit of Excellence. Also the author mentioned the tale
of 10 blind men inspecting an elephant. According to the author's
writing, when each blind man reaches different conclusions about the
creature, the students are invited to consider whether truth is
absolute or lies in the eye of the beholder. I think this is really
interesting and totally true. In my opinion about that, each student
has a special learning type. I agree on it. The author also talked
about how many students the United States' 3.500 institutions were
flooded with, and how many countries these students are from. These
numbers are really high, I think. I learned that from this passage a
lot of things, including this one. From the text, Marvin Bressler,
professor of sociology and education specialist at Princeton
University, said that the egalitarian conception that everyone has a
right to an education appropriate to his potential was a highly
democratic and compassionate standard. According to the author, this
is true, not all United States collegians can match the performance of
their foreign counterparts, but American institutions do offer
students from rich and poor families alike the chance to realize their
full potential. As a result, I learned a lot of things from this
passage. I really enjoyed and understood while we were reading it. :)
First of all, I want to say something about our last text. It was too long and boring to me. The writer mentioned the same topic over and over. Also he underlined only the advantages of American universities. I guess that he thinks American universities are gorgeous, and the others are piece of junk. I think he has written this text for advertising. Maybe the bosses are in search of clients. I am sure that a lot of students wanted to study in an American university after they had read the text. In this case, this life-draining text will be on the right track.
YanıtlaSilSecondly, I don’t like their way to name their schools. They name some schools as college, some of them as university. As far as I learned from lessons, they are the same. Thus, it is just confusing.
Take care:)
The topic of this week is the system of American universities. The topic attracted my attention I enjoyed the topic. I learned a lot of significant information from the text. It contains a lot of details and information. It is very interesting the system of university in America for many students who are from different countries because the system in America such a different from other systems. If you are a student in an American university or college, you are free to do many things such as you can change your major. You can change ever your school. These things are almost impossible in Turkey. Many students realize this freedom, and they go to the American universities to have education. Also American universities provide equality, everyone has roughly same rights. They are compassionate and democratic. In Turkey, universities more strict, you cannot change your major easily in contrast America's. The environment less limited than Turkish universities in the U.S. These opportunities are very appearing for a lot of students and they go there to have a good education almost all over the world.
YanıtlaSilThis week we talked about universities. We mentioned the systems of the universities. We made clear what the requirements for a student to attend university are. And then, we started to talked about the requirements in the United States. The text we read was included these requirements and also differences between colleges and universities. The text’s title was the Pursuit of Excellence. I loved this text because I learned new things from it. It said that universities in America are the envy of the world. It continued with details, such as the United States’ 3500 institutions were flooded with 39,600 students from China and 36,610 students from Japan. It was followed by India and Canada. It means there are a lot of students from foreign countries. It was interesting. The text continued with reasons. According to the text, teachers in the United States are very good for the students. They always help their students individually. Also I learned that most U.S. high school graduates go to college. However, students in American universities must take a variety of courses in addition to courses in their major field, they even continued to prefer these universities. And lastly, many American universities today are having financial problems. I think it is a shame.
YanıtlaSilThis week's topic was American universities, their systems, financial issues etc. (ıt was again a long passage which is a bit hard to read ) First of all, we learned that a lot of students from other countries prefer American universities-not only undergraduate students, but also graduates-.Secondly, high school student's percentage of attending college is highest in America, because it is not expensive as in European and Asian universities, students can find scholarships easily. Also they don't have to take exams like Abitur A levels etc. In addition, American students have a flexibility that they can go back college at 35 or they can change their profession, but for example french students or japanese students can't.-they need to change their profession at the age of 16 and they have no chance to change it or it is really hard.-Thirdly, American universities have a lot of social opportunities. In America , it is assumed that student's social lives are as important as their education.Forthly, students can get chance to make direct contact with professors. Finally, it was mentioned in the passage that American universities have financial problems that might be true.I don't know why or how, but they need to realize and do something to stop this :)I believe, they are on the right track about education. They are doing whatever students need.I totally agree especially that daily lives of students, I mean campuses, are as important as their education which is not enough in our university, but in America ,campuses have a lot of facilities opportunities etc. Maybe that's why they have financial problems. :)
YanıtlaSilOur new topic was universities.Universities in USA are considered the best. Many students around the world want to go to US universities. In US universities students can go any fields they want.I think it is the best quality of US universities.People have to do or choose whatever they want to be.This is human nature. They care about what you wanted to be not your grades. In this way they get students' attention, so they care about universities more and more.Author stated this in the text.
YanıtlaSilOur topic was related to American education system and other countries’ education system in the last week.Actually,it was hard to read and understand,so I was bored. At the same time the passage included some results of researchs. They made the passage realistic to me,and I totaly agree with the text about American education system. For example,my uncle lives in the U.S.A.When he arrived there,he worked as a cooker.Actually,he is an athlete but he could not make a living by cooking. Then he decided to go to university. He applied to Arkansas State University, and he took an exam.It was related to English. They evaluate his knowledge at English. Finally,he passed the exam, and he is studying in sport management now.I believe that getting education is easy in America. This week I learned from the passage that money is not so important to get education in America. They do not seperate students according to their financial status. Also, they have many scholarship opportunities. You can take scholarship from many foundations and companies like Starbucks.Another positive side is about departments. You can change your department and university if you want.I think it is the best advantages of American colleges because we cannot make our best choices. Our opinions can change. We can notice an unwanted thing in our field when we start to study for our department. Thus, changing department is very important for students. Finally, we saw the negative situation about education in America. If a crisis occurs,Americans may discover they do not know what they have got until it is gone.I wish we would have a more understandable passage in the next week. :)
YanıtlaSilThis week our topic was about education systems in America and some countries.Firstly, the text was very long, but it has very detailed information..The text also has a lot of information about connection between students and their teachers,America's menu of options, social lives and financial problems in America. After I had read the text, I realized that I hadn't known many things about different education systems. I didn't know education systems in Germany,England and France. The text has some information about each of them. For example,French students choose their fields when they are 16 years old. I think it is too early to choose appropriate fields for them. However, in America the students can change their departments and schools. Changing the schools seems too impossible in Turkey. In Turkey, the education system is very difficult,I think. If the students changed their schools,it would make confusion. Also,I didn't know that most European and Asian universities provide education only for small elite clientele. I think everybody has the right to get equal education. In addition to them,I could learn information about G.I bill in America.I think the education system in America is unrivaled. In conclusion, even though the text was a long one,I found a lot of different information about the topic.
YanıtlaSilLast week,we read a passage titled ''The Pursuit of Excellence.'' This passage is mainly about systems of education in America and it compares American universities with universities in different countries. I haven't gone to a university in America so far-I hope I will go-, but author of this passage praises American universities a lot. According to the passage, many students prefer American universities because they have a lot of opportunities that are related to facilities and type of education. For example, campuses of these universities are really big and modern. Also, students can communicate with their teachers in person whenever they want. In contrast, other universities in Europe don't have options like this. Students can communicate with them in person when they get high grades. Besides,America's menu of option varies such as research universities, state institutions, military academies, and so on. On the other hand, there is a single system in Europe. For these reasons, students try to go to the universities in America. In my opinion,American universities have many privileges, but they are too expensive for parents, especially in Turkey. I have been studying for 13 years in schools and universities in Turkey, but I haven't discovered yet what type of educational system we have. Our system prevents student creativity and capability of thinking because it makes them focus on exams and notes only. Students don't want to produce anything. They consider that inventing something is a waste of time. I think we should change our system and encourage the students to use their abilities and think. Thus,we can think creatively and improve our universities and country.
YanıtlaSilLast week our topic was about systems of universities in US and Europe.First,I can say that properly our system, system of Turkey,is not good.Such as Europe, students take the final exam to have occupation and after your decision you cannot change it.Thus,it is not suitable system for people because of their age. They have to decide their job in young age of their life.I think people should have more time for decision. On the other hand,America has a great system of education.Students can change their fields easily. You can also change even your university. There are lots of time to decide which field is your cup of tea.In addition, they do not consider students' property.Every student have a chance to enroll courses whichever they want.Even, they can go to university which age they were. There are a lot of other opportunity like these. All of these reasons,American's education system is the best one.
YanıtlaSilThis week, our topic is “The Pursuit of Excellence”. I'll give you my opinion about this topic. First of all, I think the university education system in America is very good. It has a lot of good features. For example, you aren't graded solely on examinations. In my opinion, it is very useful for students because you can be sick when you have an exam, and you can't get a high point in the exam. Also, the studnts can jump from department to department in this system. Secondly, I want to talk about the university education system in Europe. It is stricter than the America's. The students are graded solely on examinations in the university education system in Europe. Also, the students can't jump from department to department in this system. Finally, I want to talk about the reading text. It has a lot of information. There're a lot of details, too. The author give some examples about the education systems, and compares these examples. I think it's very useful way to learn new information.
YanıtlaSilAmerica has lots of freedom naturally, it has freedom about education system.Last week we read a text about education system in USA.This system is very different from our own system,so sometimes it was very surprising for us.Because we take important exams,so generally we go to several courses in order to go to university, but if they want to go to university, they could go university. They don't have to try as we as.American people have a lot of alternatives for example, they can change their department when they think that they decide wrongly.I think it is a wonderful.Several people must do their jobs even they don't like this job because they don't have any chance to change their choice.I think education is the most important thing in civilization.Of course every country has some differences about this topic but I think the most significant things are freedom and equality.System shouldn't discriminate between students.System should give students same chance. In addition education system shouldn't be changed every year.I think only it must be made lots of students be more happy.
YanıtlaSilIf I had the chance to talk to the author of this text, I would ask him/her why took a stand with America’s universities. It is obvious that he looked on the bright side of them. In my opinion, he mentioned the benefits of America’s universities during the whole text. Maybe, I am wrong the track. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What had driven me. Anyway, the author may be take a side by them, but he is right. I learned that most American universities provide a lot of opportunities for us, students. He gave information about the comparison between the American universities and the others skillfully. Also, he quoted remarks made by some experts who have information about universities.
