Hi,everyone!:) Today's subject is birth order myth.It is one of the most controversial subjects all over the world.This myth says that all children have some spesific qualifications when they born.For example,firstborns are more organized or the youngest child of the family always wants to get attention from other family members.In my opinion,making generalizations is wrong way to explain this idea.Besides,there are several researches on this myth and,they proved that it is not important to have some credentials.I strongly believe that nurture is really important for people.People can have some special genes to do something,but surrounding forges the people's character.Most people don't consider this fact;family is also a kind of environment.As a result,people begin to think that birth order is a folk wisdom.By the way,I want to say something about folk wisdom.Folk wisdom is very common in Turkey,too.Almost everyone knows at least one folk wisdom:) I think they might probably come from our Shaman tradition in Middle Asia.Believe it or not,a lot of people still believe in supertitutions,even many well-educated people.It is so interesting!See you next week!:)
YanıtlaSilI think birth order myth is an interesting subject. Before two weeks in our main course lesson we learned that it has influence on personality. If you are first born , you are more succesful or if you are the baby of the family , you will be baby forever for your family, but in reading passage it was vice versa. ıt said it hasn't any effect. To me, it isn't something general. We cannot say all of the first borns are succesful. ıt can change from family to family , in other words it can change up to nature, but mainly the most important thing which has influence on personality is nurture. I mean our family, town where we grow up, our teachers,friends etc. In conclusion, it isn't about birth order. It is all up to combination of our nature and our nurture. By the way I have something to say about folk wisdom . Beyond a shadow of doubt, everyone knows folk wisdoms, but from time to time they become meaningless for all of us and they are ridiculous,but nevertheless we believe them :)
YanıtlaSilThere are hundreds of superstitions in the world. Although they aren’t proved by science, people never give up believing them. Different cultures might cause different beliefs, but there is no culture that has folk wisdom. I am curious about this situation. I searched and found weird superstitions of some cultures. According to one of them you had better not sit down the thresholds, or else you can’t marry. Another of them says that you had better not sew your clothes when you wear them, otherwise your husband will you die soon. By the way, in my opinion birth order myth is another folk wisdom. This myth is supported by some research. However recent research has shown that it is just self-fulfilling prophecy.
YanıtlaSilThis week,our topic was the birth-order myth.I found this topic interesting.I sometimes agree with some researches about the birth-order myth.For example,only children can be more selfish,because they don't have a chance to share their belongings.Generally,siblings share their toys,books,meals etc.In my opinion,generally firstborns have to be mature before their siblings be.They are always first at everything.If his/her siblings have difficulties at something,everybody expects firstborns' help,because firstborns experienced it before.However these myhts can't always be true.In contrast,I don't believe some folk wisdoms.They can be ridiculous.Every lastborn don't have to be funny.Also,being funny or hardworking can't be affected by birth order.There is no relationship between birth order and personality.I think family size and parental attention is big effect on personality.Large families can't support their children enough.In conclusion, there are many effects on personality,but birth order isn't one of them.
YanıtlaSilThe topic of this week is birth order. There are a lot of different folk wisdoms, but according to researches, these wisdoms are not true. The results are really surprising because many people believe that birth order, and family size is a big effect on children. However, it isn’t true. Birth order and family size is not effect as much as the environment. Also, self-fulfilling prophecy is an another effect. It has really big influences on children. If you always say your child ‘You will be a president, you will be very successful.’ Most probably the child will be a successful person because he has big pressure from his family, so the child likely to be accomplished because of pressure. On the other hand, it’s also true for bad effect on people. If you always say your child ‘you cannot be a successful person.’ Or ‘I won’t success this mission correctly.’ Naturally, the boy likely not to be accomplished because of these negative effects. Also, folk wisdoms can be very bad effects on some families because many people believe these folk wisdoms. Before believing these rumors, you should make a research about reliableness of these rumors.
YanıtlaSilDo you believe myths? If not, this week probably didn’t attract you interest, however the previous week’s topic was birth order myth. I think no one predicts it is generally true, so does it. Maybe it is self-fulfilling prophecy, even though statistics show that many children who are the oldest in his/her family is smart, self-sufficient, and has kind of qualities. The youngest is more successful in arts, and he/she always tries to catch people’s attentions. Also middle ones usually have both qualities. As a matter of fact, research has shown that it is just a piece of folk wisdom. In fact, it is not true, but majority of people don’t agree them, and they believe in this myth.
YanıtlaSilThis week's subject is birth order myth. I think it's very important subject for people. Some people believe it, but the others don't believe it. I believe it. I think it effects people. For example, I'm the oldest child in my family. I'm always a leader. I solve problems about my brother. If he has a problem, I give advice him. Also, I'm always a responsible person. It is a very bad situation for me. I didn't do too extreme thing when I was a child. My friends were lazy and naughty. I always wanted do something with them, but unfortunately, I couldn't do it anytime. I don't know what's good for me. Maybe I'm a lucky boy because I didn't have any bad experiences. I don't want to talk anymore about this subject. Now, I want to talk about folk wisdom. It's very common in my country. Turkish community like it too much. I don't have an idea why they like it too much. I think it's a habit. Our older people did somethings and we are still doing them. I don't know why we're doing it. Now, it's time to talk about the reading text. It was really good and I liked it. The author gave us a lot of information and examples.
YanıtlaSilHey,this week's passage was about birth order myth.This topic was fascinating to me.I think this issue is a dilemma because it is not explained until now obviously.For example ; Alfred Adler,who is an Australian psychiatristü,said that personality and birth order are related with each other and the first child is the center of love and interest.He/she has to share this love when the second child is born.To Adler,the first cildren tend to crime and the smallest child tend to be in trouble.The first children hurt theirselves less than the last children do.I almost totally agree with him but I think the second or last children tend to crime.They think that they came to their families lately and they are excluded.Each researcher and public says different things about that so most of them can be true.Secondly,I guess one of the self-fulfilling prophecy samples is following a life according to what others think of us.We always try and say that we behave ourselves and we do not depend on someone but we always behave acquaintances and follow a life according to what they think of us.By the way,there is a part of Mevlana's poems.He said,"Either appear as you are or be as you appear.".He means do not care of others' thoughts and live as you wish.To sum up,I believe that we can cause some incidents with power of thought by saying constantly.
YanıtlaSilI do not believe in birth order myth.I sounds ridiculous.If I am not the first child is that mean I cannot be a leader?Researchers do some research about being a first, second.....etc.They think this birth order myth is not correct.Also we discussed about folk wisdom.I really love this situation because it makes me laugh.In the past some people said some things and some other people believed them and this is how the folk wisdom occured.There is no scientific results for folk wisdom they are just unnecessary things and beliefs.
YanıtlaSilThis week we read a text about birth order. Its name is The Birth-Order Myth. According to text, most of the researchers claim that firstborns are radically different from other children has been discredited, but any effects of birth order on personality will likely be washed out by all the other influences in a person’s life. They believe that firstborns are more intelligent, but I agree with others who wash out this belief. I don’t think so that firstborns are different from each other. I think personality influences by family’s resource. Also environment is effective on personality. For example, I am middle of my siblings. I have a younger sister and an older sister. My older sister is mathematics teacher, and I will become a pilot, I hope. My younger sister’s classes are very good. My older sister says every time” My younger sister more intelligent than our, I am here because I am hardworking, but she doesn’t study as much as I do.” So it is not interested in first, second or third ones. I think it is interested in improvement. Let me mention “ self-fulfilling prophecy”. An example from the text, people who believe that firstborns are more capable or deserving may treat them differently. This is self-fulfilling prophecy because it is not general. It depends on a person. “The nails cannot be cut at nights” this is also a self-fulfilling prophecy example. Actually, cutting cannot be relevant with nights so it is self-fulfilling prophecy. If I want to summarize, I enjoyed it when we were read the this text . (=
YanıtlaSilWe talked about birth order and ıts effect on our personalities.We read some folk wisdoms and self-fulfilling prophecy about this topic and I disagree with this idea.For example,They say older children are more organized than other siblings.I have two sisters,but my younger sister is much more organized than older sister.I think every people have differnt personalities,so making a generalization about people's personalities is not true.On the other hand everyone knows that this is the work of psychologists.They research about people's behaviors and this behaviors'causes.Birth order is not the most important thing on our character.Parents and other people's behaviors very effective on our personalities.Finally we don't forget that our charecter occur when we were a child and I think changing character is the most difficult thing for another people even if you love them very much.Briefly we don't pay attention folk wisdom.
YanıtlaSilLast week’s topic was about the birth-order myth.It’s difficult to believe that but some myths are true.For example,a lot of people know that first born child has more responsible than the others.In fact,this is about being older.If you have a younger sibling,you’ll have to care about your sibling when your parents go somewhere.This behavior improves the first born’s taking responsibility.Being a second born kid I agree this.In order to,many folk-wisdoms are ridiculous.Can you believe that thirteen is unlucky number?Unfortunately,there are lots of people who believe that.Did you know that some airlines companies do not have thirteen seat?Due to,people do not want to travel with this seat.They believe if they travel with this seat,plane can fall down.Imagine that if plane fall down,nobody can survive after this accident.There is no relevance with seat number.So I’ve not heard fool idea like that.About these there is one more thing;self-fulfilling prophecy.Actually,I do not have much information about self-fulfilling prophecy,but I can say that believing yourself is really important.It makes you stronger.And this can increase ability.

YanıtlaSilFirst of all, If I had the chance to talk to the author of this text, I would ask him that why did u write this absurd text? It’s my point of view that birth order myth rings hollow. It just affects on some personality traits.Additionally, it depends on everyone. Something tells me that most of my classmates are agree with me. Secondly, there are lots of folk wisdom and self-fulfilling prophecy in the world. I believe that ancestors said these superstitions to give advice about something. Most of them expired because of technology and living conditions. For this reason, they sounds funny. I guess that the funniest one is “bullet for demon’s ear”. Here is simple explanation about it. People do this folk wisdom to send away bad things' probability and blessing their own. How we can do it? First of all, you have to say “bullet for demon’s ear”. Secondly, you have to pull one of your ear and make a sound like kiss voice.Then, you have to knock on wood three times. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? =) (Sorry for chicken translate )

YanıtlaSilI read a text about birth order myth last week. It was really interesting for me because I haven’t known anything about this topic before. Many people believe in birth order myth is true for them. However, my idea about it is that I really don’t agree with this situation because everybody has different personality, so their characteristic features depend on surronding where they live in, and their parents’ behavior against children. I think, the genetic structure of personality as well as the effect of the formation has an impact on behaviors. Therefore, birth order is not important for people’s specialities, but many people in my country belive in birth order myht because they don’t know true information about science especially biology.
YanıtlaSilIn my opinion self-fulfilling prophecy and folk wisdom are unnecessary for many reasons. First of all, many folk wisdom are illogical because God gave us many skills to be succesfull, but God doesn't give us guaranty for anything. We will be self-confident if we ignore voice of society. These folk wistoms can sometime be logical. For example,a person who pies while standing is may probably be prostate It is folk wisdom, but many people didn't realize this situation.In addition, blue bead worn against the evil eye is unnecessary thing to use because, God gave us a fate, and there are some informations we can't change,but we can change some of the by treating well towards people. Also, the text made me realize to be research some of folk wisdom. I see there are many illogical folk wisgoms in the wprld, not only Turkey. Finallly, We always create our chance, of course with help and allowance of God.
