Last week we read a text about namesaking and we enjoyed a holiday due to heavy snow. Now it is time to write our reading journal assignments about the namesaking.

I read an interesting text last week. I learnt having same names in family is wrong because this situation causes some confusion. For example, people confuses each other's names when they say their names. In addition to this, I think names have some characteristic features, so everyone should have different names in their families. On the other hand, I learnt about why people give same names to their children. They give children their father, or mother name because they believe that this is way of the honoring. It is interesting idea, but it is not common nowadays. To sum up, namesaking is important for people’s lives because they live with with the energy of their names.

I interested this topic because results of the researches are really interesting. For example, a father who gives his name to his child interests more than others. Also, children who are named after their dad are closer than other siblings. This relationship is very believable for me because one of my friends is in the same situation. Besides, according to psychologist, children who were named their dads name have %20 less behavioral problems. Parents might use this tip so that children can be more unproblematic people. To me, giving fathers' name isn't true. Children might have some individual problems.
Last week,we read a passage about namesaking.It's interesting subject,I think.Many people give their names to their children.In my opinion,there are several reasons in this subject,but main point is traditions.Some countries attach their customs like in Turkey.Namesaking is one of the most important traditions in Turkey.Our encestors gave their names to their children in order to affect them positively.They wanted their children resemble their parents.In addition,names weren't registered in old times,so they could want to remember their names easily.And also,they used some numbers for people's names.For this reason,they could give same names.On the other hand,most of parents don't want to give their names nowadays since they find it old-fashioned.They want to give unique names to their children.Thus,they believe that their children can have some special qualifications.They can grow up individually.As far as I'm concerned,it is too weird.My father's name is Servet.If we have same names,it can be disturbing.The another point is that some names are very common.For example,majority of the Turkish names consist of ''Ahmet''s and you are also an ''Ahmet''.It is just a kind of namesaking.In conclusion,namesaking will always remain as a strange tradition.
First of all, the things I read about were exciting because I didn’t know anything about namesaking, so I learned a lot of information about it. The other reason why I think so is that the real story of namesaking. At first, I asked myself that who is the inventor of this ridiculous thing, but when I learned the real story about him, I realized that it’s the best way for that situation. Secondly, the text shown me some people who have a same name with their fathers. Some of them think that their names are shameful. I think that they are on wrong track. On the other hand, others think that we have unique names , so we are really lucky. Happily, I gained a different point of view with these people. I will try to see the glass as half full if I have a problem about something. I guess that life will be better with this point of view. Also, Samuella Becker has already realized this truth. She got over her name problem with this way.

We were on chapter 2 last week and we discussed about people who were named after their father.we said they receive a suffix to their name as 'Jr'.We learned from the text that fathers approve their children when they name after their children.I do not believe like this because children feel more pressure and they think that they have to seem like their fathers.In addition,this situation can cause inconvenience.For example,we do not want to call them with same names in the same setting.Therefore I support individualism.Everbody should have specific place in society.Otherwise,people can comment wrongly or truely.I mean,if a child was named after his/her murderer or thief father,we can think that it’s better to avoid from that child.Usually if her/his father is a hero,we behave him/her sincerely.We try to help or do a favor her/him.I guess, also he/she feel pressure but he/she honor her father at the same time,and try to be a person as her/his namesake’s copy.In this point,I realize that when your father is an admirable person,you can risk inconvenience of namesaking.The namesaking turns into honor with a strong bond.When I thought about this isssue,I regrettted.Unfortunately,the world is full of prejudgment and nobody does not have to be a person as her/his namesake.

Beyond a shadow of fact, there are many examples and explanations to be understandable easily. For example, some of children would refuse to be called the same name of father. In earlier, it can seem so boring, but the reality isn't that. These children can realize that situation is really important for them too late. When the children is adult. they may understand advantages of this name. Prejudgement is too bad habit for people. To sum up, to me if you have the name of your father, the life may be more livable. It isn't bad thing to have the same name with any member of family. Don't forget if you don't have relationship your history, you can't built your future properly.
In my opinion namesaking is black and white. People associated with being respectful in the past, but this situation should change, because there is no relationship between them. There are another ways to show respect, and to me, giving a person’s name to babies is the least appropriate way. Also according to the passage, children who have their fathers’ name feel unimportant. Fortunately, Turkish men usually don’t give their children their names, but they give their children their fathers’ names. People believe that a person who gives someone his name, he also gives his characteristic features. However each person should have his own personality. They think that if our names arethe same, it causes a lot of problems. For instance, when we are together with our family, they called us with the same names. They can call me or my child. It's really confusing. Also, there is a bad situation. I'm a father, and my child is a girl. I want to give my name to her. My name isn't apropriate for her. Maybe, her friends can laugh her so much. It's very bad. Now, I want to talk about the reading text. It was really good. I liked it. The author gave us a lot of examples.

In this text, the author told about some people who have same name with their dads. “Junior” which is used at the end of the name is also mentioned in this text like Carleton Warren Kendrick,Jr. whose father’s name is also Carleton Warren Kendrick, so his name is that. I think, it is really interesting because this issue is both good and bad. For example, if somebody who has a namesake is appreciated by most of people, when his child’s name is same with his father, he is also appreciated by most of people because of his dad’s name. On the other hand, if his father is criminal, also he will be recognized as criminal as his father because of the name. While I was reading this text, I thought that it is really common because also my name is the same with the name of my granmother’s mother or my namesake is also my grandmother’s mother. Everybody in my relatives knows that, and they always tell me that one. Sometimes it is boring because everybody always recognizes me with my grandmother’s mother. Before I was 18, I hadn’t liked my name because I had thought it is too old, but now, I think it can suppose unique because there arent many people who have this name.
